Robyn Lynch invites you to bounce into her Irish fashion world at NOW Gallery
by Adriano Batista

If you are looking for a fun and immersive way to experience the latest trends in fashion, you might want to check out the 2023 Fashion Commission at NOW Gallery on London’s Greenwich Peninsula. The gallery, which has hosted innovative installations by some of the most exciting names in fashion, such as Matty Bovan, Nicholas Daley, Mowalola and Molly Goddard, has chosen Dublin-born designer Robyn Lynch as its latest recipient. Her exhibition, Greetings From Ireland, will open to the public between 8 December 2023 – 25 February 2024, and will take you on a journey through the creative process behind her eponymous menswear label.

Robyn Lynch is a designer who draws inspiration from her Irish heritage, but with a twist. She combines retro elements with contemporary silhouettes and processes and uses Irish iconography such as shamrocks and the color green in a playful and provocative way. She is also a 2023 finalist of the prestigious International Woolmark Prize, which recognizes excellence in wool innovation.
The exhibition, Greetings From Ireland, is a collaboration with Irish artist Rory Mullen, who has created a huge bouncy castle-esque inflatable structure that houses the entire installation. The inflatable dome is a tribute to Lynch’s roots and a celebration of what it is to be Irish. It also explores themes around nostalgia, family, and the freedom of expression from a bygone era before mobile phones and social media were omnipresent.

Inside the dome, visitors will explore three areas representing different stages of the creative process. The first room will present the primary research phase, showing the inspiration behind Lynch’s FW19 to FW23 collections in addition to previously unseen behind-the-scenes moments from the studio and beyond. The second room will be a process space, giving people the opportunity to see how 2D structures evolve within the context of form and the body and different materials. The final space will celebrate the community and culture that the brand represents. A short film will depict how Lynch’s practice ties into where she is from, her relationships, and the importance of her community.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to virtually ‘try on’ Robyn Lynch garments in an interactive installation. Hosted in partnership with Kepler Interactive, the installation will feature motion sensors that pick up on body shapes and movements.

Exhibition dates – 8 Dec 2023 – 25 Feb 2024
