Polimoda Welcomes Walter Van Beirendonck as Mentor
by Adriano Batista
Polimoda has announced the exciting addition of Walter Van Beirendonck to its faculty. The Belgian designer, known for his innovative and daring approach to fashion, will serve as a mentor for the Master in Fashion Design program starting in October 2024.

Van Beirendonck, a member of the Antwerp Six, brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to Polimoda. His work is characterized by its bold use of color, playful slogans, and thought-provoking prints. Through his collections, Van Beirendonck explores various themes, from social issues to humorous commentary, demonstrating the powerful impact fashion can have on society.
As a mentor, Van Beirendonck will work closely with Polimoda’s Master in Fashion Design students, providing invaluable guidance and feedback on their projects. His in-depth knowledge of the industry and his ability to inspire creativity will undoubtedly shape the future of fashion design.
Massimiliano Giornetti, director of Polimoda, expressed his enthusiasm for Van Beirendonck joining the faculty. “Walter Van Beirendonck represents the quintessence of the purest creativity, the synthesis of an absolute, uncompromising aesthetic. A hymn to independent thinking that does not bend to rules and trends. For Polimoda it is a real honor to have Walter as Mentor of the Master in Fashion Design, his vision and methodology in teaching will bring to the school the possibility to explore new horizons.”
Van Beirendonck himself is equally excited about the opportunity to mentor the next generation of fashion designers. “I am looking forward to starting the mentorship for Masters students at Polimoda in Florence and I am ready to stimulate, encourage, excite and motivate a new generation of fashion designers!” he commented.
