Altaroma Spring/Summer 2023
by Anna Barr
Altaroma is the crossroads where Italian manufacturing excellence meets a new fashion generation over the course of a week in the Italian capital following the iconic return of Valentino last week for Haute Couture on the Spanish Steps after seven years.
Different from Milan, Rome Fashion Week really explores the up-and-coming talents by showcasing an exhibition of independent brands, emerging designers, and innovative startups. Believing in the future talent that Italy holds, Silvia Venturini Fendi (Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear Fendi) is the sitting President of Altaroma.
One of the most exciting facets of the new gen is their interest and dedication to sustainability. The who’s who of Italian fashion came out in support for the Who is Next 2022 Edition with Alessandro Michele ( Direttore Creativo di Gucci) and Francesca Ragazzi (Head of Editorial Content di Vogue Italia) among others making up the distinguished jury.
Affirming its role as a showcase to discover and sponsor new talents, Altaroma presents the new edition of “Who Is On Next?”, the fashion scouting project organized in collaboration with Vogue Italia. The ideal setting for an experimental, fresh, and innovative approach to design, although without losing the connection with artisanal traditions and the excellence of Made in Italy, it is a unique chance for emergent brands to show their designs for a jury of experts and get support to consolidate their names in the National and International markets.
Collections from a selection of fashion students also were highlighted during the week including the Accademia Costume & Moda: Talents 2022 Fashion Show. The students’ work was judged by a distinguished jury including Raffaello Napoleone (CEO, Pitti Immagine). Former student Marco Mastroianni, now in charge of Création Matières at Louis Vuitton, Dior and Fendi, helped students in their selection of fabrics along with help provided by the brands of Sistema Moda Italia who supplied and manufactured both textiles and finishings.
