Nike unveiled the ACG Ultrafly, a new trail shoe made for athletes who run in nature. Designed to provide stability, traction, and comfort even on challenging terrain, the shoe aims to give runners confidence with every step.

The development process was extensive. After 13 rounds of testing covering more than 30,000 miles, Nike combined its running expertise with ACG’s outdoor specialization. The result is a shoe built for high performance in demanding environments. Brenden McAleese, director of footwear at Nike ACG, explained that the shoe was created in close collaboration with athletes who wanted a powerful trail option. Every detail was shaped by their feedback and tested in real conditions.

The technology inside the ACG Ultrafly is drawn from Nike’s most advanced innovations. It features ZoomX foam, known for being light, soft, and highly responsive, offering 85% energy return. A unique carbon fiber FlyPlate is designed to flex over obstacles like roots and rocks, reducing strain over long distances. The outsole, made with Vibram Lightbase, provides strong grip and control on uphill and downhill sections. The upper is more breathable and drains water quickly, helping runners maintain their pace through wet conditions.

Athletes who tested the shoe have been positive. Shea Aquilano, a member of Nike’s All Conditions Racing team, switched to the ACG Ultrafly just before the Western States race because of its responsiveness and comfort. Caleb Olson, who won the Western States Endurance Run in a prototype, called them his favorite race shoe for their balance of all-day comfort and high performance.

The shoe also includes design details tailored to trail runners: a wider toe box, a secure heel, an internal fit band, and a gusseted tongue for improved comfort over many miles. The look of the shoe reflects the bold spirit of outdoor athletes, with a standout Safety Orange colorway.

The ACG Ultrafly is the product of over two years of development, incorporating feedback from athletes across seven countries and 25 U.S. states. It represents Nike’s commitment to creating technically advanced products that serve runners in all disciplines.
