FIRE!! is all about celebrating different emotions and stories through a mix of films and documentaries. It’s a cool event in Barcelona where you can catch a bunch of great movies that talk about freedom, creativity, and fighting for what’s right.
The festival is named after an old magazine called FIRE!!, which was all about art and culture back in the 1920s. It was started by Richard Bruce Nugent, a writer who was part of the Harlem Renaissance. He was inspired by his friend Hall Johnson, who wrote a spiritual song called Fi-yer! and whose house was a hangout spot for the LGBT community.
Here are some films you’ve got to check out this weekend at FIRE!:
Till the End of the Night – This movie is about an undercover cop who has to pretend to be in love with a trans woman to get close to a drug dealer. It’s got a cool story and some really good shots that make you feel like you’re right there in the scene.
València, t’estime – This docu tells the story of the LGTBI community in Turia from the 70s to the 2000s. It’s got interviews with people who were part of the movement and shows how they fought for their rights and made history.
La Vénus d’argent – It’s about Jeanne, who wants to be a financial analyst but has to deal with her family life on a military base. She meets an old flame and gets into some drama at work. It’s got some twists and turns that keep you guessing.
This season confirms SHOOP’s design approach. It draws from the everyday and reinterprets it through a poetic, modern lens, creating a language that joins the functional with the emotional.
