Willy Chavarria Spring/Summer 2025
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
With all due respect to all the fashion houses and labels that present their work during NYFW, it has to be said that this edition (at least so far) one of the few that has stood out is the eponymous brand of Mexican-American menswear designer Willy Chavarria. Yes, the Fresno-born has once again raised the American fashion week, and not only that, but he has also managed to fascinate the whole world and the critics with his Spring/Summer 2025 proposal, called America by the way.
69 looks designed by Mr. Chavarria and his team are responsible for this, where tailoring and workwear are the main styles, accompanied by the already characteristic palette of neutral colours that is always used. There is something special about Willy’s clothes; they shine in the dark and even in the brightest room, either because of their exaggerated silhouettes, especially in the shoulder area, or because of their worn but cared-for look.
The worn-out effect, so trendy nowadays, comes to a point where it disappears to let the rich fabrics act and to be able to create romantic and fluid pieces, with long lengths and puffed sleeves, sheer and with spaghetti straps, in the purest Maria Antoñieta style.
From this historical character, a great leap is made to another style that is in charge of finishing off the collection, sporty. It is at this moment where the football polo shirts with letters and numbers on the front, the sweatshirts with the word ‘Chicano’ that refer to the origins of W.C., and the collaboration of clothing, accessories, and footwear with the sports giant Adidas, promise to be a success, especially for being able to truly appreciate the touch of the brand in the collab, as there are times when the parties invited to participate only put their name/logo on it.
America should be very proud to have a designer like Willy Chavarria!
