Video Watch: Honey to the Moon by Rob Woodcox
by Anna Barr
“A wandering soul is caught in a moment of reflection when he’s surprised with a sweet surprise, an object of desire. Thrust from his lonely corner into a riveting series of surreal encounters, Moon falls into a journey of love. “
Violeta Films presents “Honey to the Moon” a queer experimental short film by Rob Woodcox full of surrealistic visuals capturing the most extraordinary landscapes of Huasteca Potosina, Mexico. However, the film is more than a visual feast. At its core, this film explores queer identity and expression, that aims to do so in a way that is both thought-provoking and visually appealing. With characters in the midst of such stunning surroundings, the filmmakers create a universe that seems both familiar and strange.

“This film was conceptualized right after I went through a breakup and was experiencing some very deep alone time. It was Christmas of 2021, still covid vibes, and I was alone in Mexico City. I wrote about my experiences of love and started visualizing all these surreal scenes as I documented each stage of love, like chapters of a book.” – explained Rob.
Rob Woodcox is a filmmaker and photographer who currently divides time in both Mexico and the United States. Rob aims to capture parts of a vivid existence woven together by the threads of reality, memory, and dream in each piece of art he creates. Each notion is a confession of his experience, and it aims to tell a meaningful tale to each person who views it. Honey to the Moon is currently making the film festival circuit. His next project, which is in pre-production, will focus on front-line organizations battling climate change.
