DAWANG unveils its Fall/Winter 2023 collection
by Adriano Batista
New York-based streetwear brand DAWANG, founded and designed by Daisy Wang and creative directed by her best friend Abby Li, has launched its Fall/Winter 2023 collection, featuring a cool blend of denim and brocade.
They have always been passionate about pushing the boundaries of fashion and expressing her cultural identity through her designs. Their Fall/Winter 2023 collection is a testament to her artistic genius, as she draws inspiration from both Eastern and Western cultures and captures the essence of modern streetwear with a touch of traditional Chinese flair.
“This collection is a harmonious marriage of the most representative textiles from Western and Eastern cultures: denim and brocade,” says Daisy Wang. “It’s a celebration of the rich history and craftsmanship of both worlds, creating a captivating fusion that speaks to the modern man and woman who appreciate the intersection of tradition and contemporary style.”
The collection consists of seventeen pieces, designed for both men and women, that showcase a visual feast of intricate detailing, unique color palettes, and a masterful interplay of textures. Each piece reflects Daisy Wang’s artistic vision and commitment to craftsmanship, making it a work of art in its own right.
The collection is rooted in Daisy Wang’s immersive journey to Suzhou, a city west of Shanghai renowned for its silk brocade and classical gardens. During this visit, DAWANG seized a distinctive opportunity to intimately explore the region and delve into the rich history of silk making and brocade textiles. Observing the intricate craftsmanship involved in creating garments using time-honored techniques passed down through generations left a lasting impression on Daisy, offering a truly unparalleled experience that facilitated a profound connection with her culture and community. This unique encounter served as the driving force behind the inspiration for every piece in the collection.
