Baracuta and Kartik Research Debut Collaborative Collection
by Adriano Batista
British heritage brand Baracuta joins forces with South Asian label Kartik Research for a unique clothing line. This collaboration brings together the rich design legacies of their respective homelands, resulting in a collection that’s both modern and timeless.
First showcased at Paris Fashion Week, the collection draws inspiration from Kartik Research’s FW24 theme: India’s dual identity. The brand explores the romanticized remnants of the British Raj juxtaposed with the modern, globalized world. Designer Kartik Kumra seamlessly blends these contrasting elements to create a six-piece collection of workwear that’s both contemporary and effortlessly stylish.
The lineup features relaxed tailoring with a lightweight cotton shirt and loose-fitting black trousers. Traditional Zardozi hand embroidery with intricate beadwork adorns these pieces, adding a touch of elegance and craftsmanship. An army-green cotton hoodie with raw-cut edges completes the look with a touch of casualness.
Baracuta’s iconic G9 Harrington jacket gets a makeover with Kartik Research’s signature touches. Handcrafted details like embroidery and embellishment elevate the classic jacket, while the brand’s signature Fraser tartan lining is recreated on handlooms by local Indian artisans. This approach preserves the legacy of ancient Indian handicraft, a core principle for Kartik Research, which aims to bring back the human touch to clothing.
The collection reimagines Baracuta’s G4 jacket as well. Here, Kumra collaborates with a women-owned cooperative in Maharashtra to create a one-of-a-kind patchwork quilt with Kantha embroidery details. Each jacket is unique, embracing imperfections while retaining the G4’s defining features like raglan sleeves and a two-way front zip.

The pieces will be available from September 27th on both brands’ websites and select retailers worldwide, with prices starting from £325.
