Tribute brand collaborates with Waste Yarn Project and Chromie Squiggle to create oods
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta

Tribute Brand has joined forces with Waste Yarn Project, a company that produces unique 100% zero waste knitwear using leftover yarn and a “random system”, to produce unique sweaters based on the generative Chromie Squiggle code.
A digital script transforms the Chromie Squiggle source code to create unique physical and digital garments linked to each of the Chromie Squiggles. Each garment will be uniquely linked to its owner, and instantly recognizable to everyone as 1of1ofX.
The script takes an input seed, which is used to control several different variables in each Chromie Squiggle, creating a token on the chain that stores instructions to produce physical sweaters and virtual experiences in the form of digital skins. In the future, the tokens can be used as a template for future productions and editions.

The main variable that determines the look of the sweater is a Chromie Squiggle type (normal, bold, fuzzy, slinky, ribbed, pipe), the terms that are commonly used in knitwear to describe the yarn’s appearance or the knitting stitch. The Chromie Squiggle type, along with three other variables (color spread, steps between, and segments), controls the colors and their distribution across the knitted panels.

Due to the leftover yarns available and the blends used to ensure a consistently soft feel and durability in the final physical product, the sweaters sometimes oddly match the actual colours of the Chromie Squiggles, making the composition of each sweater different. This controlled randomness makes ODDS so beautiful and unique. Each ODD sweater is handmade and takes approximately twelve hours from start to finish, passing through the hands of two or three artisans.

The sweaters are embedded with Tribute-branded NFC chips that connect to the Tribute app. This connection serves as an authentication tool, provides care instructions, and the ability to change the digital appearance of the sweater through AR technology.
Coming in limited quantities, priced at $550 per sweater, the project will be launched on 8th June 2023 at www.tribute-brand.com and will be accessible to everyone.
