IM MEN Fall/Winter 2025
by Anna Barr
Based on Issey Miyake’s concept of a piece of cloth, IM MEN was founded in 2021 and explores new avenues for clothing design in relation to the human body. The IM MEN Fall/Winter 2025/26 collection, FLY WITH IM MEN set at Le Réfectoire des Cordeliers, formerly a monastery built in the early 16th century in Paris, marked their first runway show since the launch. Under the creative eye of designer Tokujin Yoshioka the collection honors the theory behind a piece of cloth and depicts a new era that will emerge from the conversation between traditional craftsmanship and modern technologies.
FLY employs the selvage, which is frequently cut off, to turn a piece of fabric into a garment with no extra trimmings, so showcasing the elegance of the lightweight fabric. Depending on how the buttons are secured, the coat and jacket can be worn inverted and create several silhouettes. The fabric is an improvement on the one used for AIR, a lightweight series that has been a mainstay of the company since the inaugural season.
When folded, the generously draped shirt, blouson, and pants in the FLAT DRAPE series form a square. The square’s corners become folds when worn, giving it a willowy appearance while a more defined silhouette is made possible by the original polyester, which is partially plant-based* and has a nice combination of softness and stretchiness. Further innovations and explorations of cloth include intentionally displaying the interior panels of the garment’s structure on the outside giving the line WALL its three-dimensional shape. There is a sophisticated shine to the recycled polyester fabric.
Taking textiles further were Toray Industries, Inc. who developed Ultrasuede®, an artificial suede produced from 100% plant-based* polyester, for the HERON line. This is the first time the fabric has been utilized for apparel on a global scale.
As perfectly stated by the team “Now, with this piece of cloth we fly upward with ease.”
