Disposable memories: Roham Shamekh in Paris
by Ivica Mamedy

Roham Shamekh stands out as one of the leading figures of the new generation of transdisciplinary artist-designers. His work challenges conventions, blurs the lines between art, design, and architecture, and captures the vibrant energy of contemporary creativity in constant evolution. Based in Dubai, he runs an experimental design studio that sits at the crossroads of collectible design and spiritual exploration. His work delves into themes such as universality, humanity, and manifestation, a concept inspired by the law of attraction and positive thinking, especially resonant with Gen Z.

For Design Miami.Paris 2025 edition, Roham Shamekh presents “Self Love”, a poetic installation made up of three seats shaped like artichoke flowers, a recurring theme in his work. Created in ceramic and resin, these pieces turn the simple act of sitting down into a ritual, inviting us to explore the dialogue between love and self-awareness. With “Self Love”, Shamekh expands the language of experimental design. Combining traditional craftsmanship with innovation, he weaves stories into everyday objects and blurs the boundaries between art, design, and sculpture. In today’s hybrid cultural landscape, his work reflects an evolving approach to design, one that moves beyond fixed labels to embrace fluidity, balance function with emotion, and merge materiality with poetry.
Before his installation drops at Design Miami.Paris on October 22, we sent Rohan off to Paris Men’s Fashion Week with a disposable camera and no rules. What came back? Snapshots of Paris nights, friends, parties, food, and the Eiffel Tower. Check it out below:
