BIRKENSTOCK introduces the Grainau
by Adriano Batista
BIRKENSTOCK introduces the Grainau, a boot that combines tradition with modern innovation. This release highlights the brand’s long history of making closed shoes, a craft that began with the Birkenstock family. The Grainau builds on this legacy, featuring the iconic BIRKENSTOCK footbed reimagined for a boot design that prioritizes both style and functionality.
The Grainau is a collaboration with Schuh Bertl, a Munich-based shoemaker known for custom craftsmanship. Together, they’ve created a boot that reflects BIRKENSTOCK’s commitment to quality and comfort. Made from durable, semi-vegetable tanned leather from Italy, the Grainau is designed to last. It uses the Norwegian welted construction, a method developed over 200 years ago for durability in tough conditions.
The boot comes in two heights—ankle and below-the-knee—offering options for different needs. Shorter boots provide flexibility for everyday use, while taller ones offer extra protection for rugged environments. The design includes a leather and rubber midsole for stability, making it suitable for both daily wear and outdoor activities.
The Grainau also features BIRKENSTOCK’s Deepblue footbed technology, known for its comfort and support. Paired with a Vibram sole, which provides excellent traction and durability, the boot is ready for any terrain.
