SP5DER debuts at New York Fashion Week in style
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
9 Sept 2024, Spring Studios (Tribeca-NYC), and hundreds of people doing their best to be the first to enter the space while strange sounds came from the sky that turned out to be fireworks. All those waiting were joined by curious onlookers who happened to be passing by 50 Varick St. and were asking: what’s going on here? It seemed that time in the Big Apple had stopped and everything was revolving around what was about to happen, the SP5DER runway debut at New York Fashion Week.
To date, the last edition of NYFW has not served up many memorable moments, but after this show took place, a check can now be made on the list, since the brand founded in 2019 in Atlanta by the American rapper Young Thug did the corresponding, which was to offer its guests a category event that no one related to urban culture missed, and to the critics a rather surprising collection, since what was expected was much less than what ended up being seen.
SP5DER opened a new chapter in streetwear – quite necessary since the last things seen were all quite similar – and without losing its characteristic spider print and through supermodels like Alton Mason, Anwar Hadid, or Mathieu Simoneau among others, offered a selection of quite interesting garments for the days of Fall/Winter 2024, where there was no shortage of leather or fur jackets to beat the infernal cold of the city with; two-piece denim sets, perfect for any occasion; sweatshirts (with or without hoods) featuring graphics combined with trousers in the same color, giving a monochromatic effect; and belts or boots in different styles, in charge of finishing off the looks.
When it came to the night, the favorite part of many, different clothes and accessories were proposed with crystal applications that elevated the proposal and matched the lights of the buildings visible from the location.
Although the industry is now only talking about quiet luxury, it is clear that streetwear is not over and is still in play, and the company has stated this.
