Audemars Piguet and 1017 ALYX 9SM introduce their new collaboration
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Matthew M. Williams and his brand 1017 ALYX 9SM come loaded with novelties this season, and a few days ago we echoed the launch of the second musical project of the designer, today, the penultimate week of August we have discovered the new collaboration with the Swiss manufacturer of haute horlogerie Audemars Piguet.
This collaboration consists mainly of four new 37 to 42 mm Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore references and a unique Royal Oak piece. The newly presented minimalist/vanguardist yet understated watches combine the manufacturer’s recognizable aesthetic codes with the refined touch of the Williams that will appeal to lovers of urban and contemporary fashion with this true object of desire with which to express their personality.
Available in 18-carat yellow gold, 18-carat white gold, or in a two-tone version, the five models adaptable to all wrists feature a refined dial enriched with the double signature of “Audemars Piguet” and “1017 ALYX 9SM”, as well as exhaustive attention to detail and a holistic sustainable approach.
It is a project that bridges two worlds and serves as an example of how to celebrate the strong ties that the manufacturer has forged with different creative fields, such as fashion. Of this work, François-Henry Bennahmias (CEO of Audemars Piguet) said: “This is the first time we have dressed the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore simultaneously, and it was a natural fit thanks to Matthew’s clean, contemporary design! That is the beauty of this collaboration: the synergies are such that we have taken each other to the next level.” And the American creative director, for his part, commented: “A collaboration like this allows for me to explore and extend my knowledge to another area of excellence.”
What is excellent is the charitable purpose of this collaboration, as the proceeds from the auction of the unique Royal Oak Automatic Chronograph model will go to projects related to supporting learning initiatives for underprivileged children, especially through the actions of the NGOs Kids in Motion and Right to Play. The former supports a specific project in Lamu (Kenya) that enables the population to strengthen its infrastructure and support community activities within the school, while the latter uses play to reveal the potential of each child. The choice to support play-based learning projects was made following the recommendations of the Audemars Piguet and Matthew Williams Foundations, which have been supporting actions in favor of underprivileged children for many years.
The Audemars Piguet and 1017 ALYX 9SM by Matthew M. Williams limited edition watches will be available for purchase at any of their boutiques. Check them out below:
