PUMA and Palomo Spain’s second collaborative collection
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Attention fans of these two brands (and there are many) because the second collaboration between PUMA and Palomo Spain has just been unveiled and confirmed. It seems that both teams hit it off quite well the first time around, and so they’ve decided to team up again to create a collection that pays homage to classic surf culture and that stands out for its genderless, enveloping touch.
PUMA x Palomo Spain’s second part is inspired by surf culture from the 60s and 70s (a time when surf culture emerged as the ultimate expression of freedom, adventure, and a relaxed, non-conformist way of looking at life) and the aesthetic that crystallised in the early 2000s. We wanted to get into a world we had never explored before”, says Alejandro Gómez Palomo, Founder and Creative Director of Palomo Spain. “A surfing theme was perfect for Summer, and it immediately brought us back to icons of the culture such as Bruce Brown’s documentary The Endless Summer and Stacy Peralta’s Dogtown and Z Boys, but also to our own teenage memories from Tarifa beaches in the early 2000s, and the surfer boy look that was so prevalent in Spain back then.”
“Surf culture was an angle PUMA had never really taken on before. Filtered through Palomo Spain’s gentle, couture-inspired lens, it immediately took on an exciting, innovative perspective. It just made so much sense”, says Nils Moersch, PUMA’s Apparel Global Creative Director. “We were in complete synergy on this project; it’s the result of a creative partnership developing over time”, he adds.
Using a soft color palette and mixing tones such as pink lavender, aqua green, and blue pastel with pops of bubble gum, yellow, and coral, the gender-neutral collection features five different ready-to-wear styles. Garments range from versatile printed cotton T-shirts and hoodies to lightweight moiré cargo pants, bomber jackets, and flowing long-sleeved tops that mimic surf rash guards.
For footwear, there are two versions of the “Slipstream” sneaker: a bicolor leather and suede lace-up, and a pink mule with chunky hook-and-loop traps. These pieces are complemented by a mint-colored moiré backpack, a reversible bucket hat, and a crossbody bag, both in the season’s colorful 60s-inspired print.
The capsule will be available at PUMA.com, selected PUMA stores, palomospain.com, and selected retailers worldwide with retail prices ranging from 45 to 225 euros.
