JW Anderson and xydrobe reveal NFT to be auctioned on 12/12/21 with proceeds donated to AKT charity
by Adriano Batista

The Colourblock Patchwork Cardigan from the JW Anderson’s Menswear Spring/Summer 2020 collection will be the first NFT from brand, the first auction lot from xydrobe and the first NFT of an already existing collectible piece.

The cardigan, now on display at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, sparked a social media trending sensation after Harry Styles wore it to rehearsals on the US broadcaster NBC’s Today show in February 2020. During lockdown, Tik Tok creator Liv Huffman created her own version of the jumper and posted the video, inspiring thousands of others to do the same. Overwhelmed by the response to the cardigan, JW Anderson’s Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson, released the pattern and a tutorial of how to make it online. The hashtag #harrystylescardigan, which ran throughout, has now reached over 86 million views to date and is widely recognized as a cultural phenomenon.

In its final iteration, the Colourblock Patchwork Cardigan has been made into an NFT created by xydrobe’s in-house team of VFX artists. Meticulously crafted over 300 hours, they have built every piece of the yarn in 3D before weaving it together procedurally for each of the six different knit patterns that make up the piece. xydrobe has made sure that every purposeful imperfection, color and decision that JW Anderson made in the building of this cardigan is honored and perfectly replicated.

The xydrobe auction for the platform’s first Archive Collectible will open on Sunday, 12th December at 19:00 UTC and will run for 48 hours. As a first in this NFT space, all proceeds of the sale will be donated to a charity that JW Anderson has supported for many years, akt.
akt supports the LBGTQ+ community, particularly young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.
