30 Finalists Announced for the 2025 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize
by Adriano Batista
The LOEWE FOUNDATION has announced the 30 finalists for the 2025 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. Their works will be displayed at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid from May 30 to June 29, 2025. This annual competition celebrates craftsmanship, highlighting artists who bring innovation, skill, and creativity to their work.

The finalists’ pieces show a wide range of techniques and materials. Some artists take traditional craft methods and apply them to new materials, like using clay for basketry or weaving patterns on metal surfaces. Others reinterpret classic motifs or draw inspiration from oral traditions, rituals, and knowledge passed down through generations. These works honor cultural heritage while also allowing artists to explore their own unique visions. Some pieces are playful and imaginative, while others focus on the artist’s handiwork, showcasing detailed surface treatments.
This year, a committee of experts selected the finalists from 4,600 submissions by artisans from 133 countries and regions. The chosen artists come from 18 countries and work in various disciplines, including ceramics, wood, textiles, furniture, paper, basketry, glass, metal, jewelry, lacquer, and leather. The selection was based on technical skill, artistic quality, innovation, and vision.
A jury of 13 experts from design, architecture, journalism, criticism, and museum curation will choose the winner of the 2025 prize. The winner will receive €50,000, and their name will be announced on May 29 during the exhibition’s opening in Madrid.
