WHYRED’s inspiration for Spring/Summer 2015 is based on the German artist Kurt Schwitters (1887–1948), who was famous for his Merz Pictures, which have been described as “psychological collages”. The idea of layering and blocking is found throughout the collection, which is perhaps best described as a modern take on the Schwitters collage – the WHYRED way of fusing art and fashion into an inspiring collection. Schwitters was a figure in the Dada movement, which rejected logic and favoured intuition and irrationality. In this sense, the collection attracts the senses and not the mind; the colours, prints and materials create a non-rational harmony that is the essence of the collection.
