The Louis Vuitton Foundation presents France’s first retrospective of Mark Rothko (1903-1970) since the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in the City of Paris in 1999. Over 115 artworks are on display, sourced from prominent institutional and private collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, the artist’s family, and London’s Tate Modern.

The exhibition, arranged chronologically, traces the artist’s entire career, from his early figurative paintings to the abstract works that have garnered global recognition.

Rothko’s persistent questioning, his desire for wordless dialogue with the viewer, and his resistance to being labeled a mere “colorist” offer a fresh perspective on his multifaceted body of work in this exhibition. From October 18, 2023 to April 2, 2024
