Telfar Clemens Among the CFDA 2021 Nominees
by Anna Barr
Although New York Fashion Week is all wrapped up, we are still receiving news from the American Fashion Capital. Following this year’s Met Gala, the next big night for American Fashion is scheduled for November 10th when the CFDA Winners will be announced. For us though, it’s not about a single winner, but the talented group of nominees who we can only expect to see and hear more from in the future.
The American Menswear Designer of the Year nominees are made up of Emily Adams Bode for Bode, Jerry Lorenzo for Fear of God, Mike Amiri for Amiri, Telfar Clemens for Telfar, and Thom Browne.
American Emerging Designer of the Year nominees are Edvin Thompson for Theophilio, Eli Russell Linnetz for ERL, Jameel Mohammed for Khiry, Kenneth Nicholson, and Maisie Schloss for Maisie Wilen.
International Men’s Designer of the Year nominees consist of Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten, Grace Wales Bonner for Wales Bonner, Rick Owens, and Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton. And this year’s Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award goes to the ever so iconic Dapper Dan.
While the nominees are not necessarily full of surprises as everyone is well-deserved, what has come as somewhat of a surprise to some media outlets (mostly those outside of fashion) is that we are seeing more new and diverse names than in the past. I’m happy to see designers who prioritize sustainability shortlisted and if one thing is for sure, New York is starting to look exciting again in the fashion landscape!
