Festival season is literally just around the corner, and Spain is one of the countries that, during the months of June to September, celebrates the most festivals. We could spend hours listing them all, but today it’s time to focus on one in particular and the one that many consider a safe bet. The festival we are referring to is none other than the Sónar Festival, which is held every year in the city of Barcelona.

It seems like only yesterday when they started, and if the founders themselves stop to analyze how quickly the years have gone by, they will be surprised when they suddenly realize that this year the festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary. You know that 30 is the new 20, so don’t panic, because although the festival is getting older, it still maintains its spirit and the same special vibe with which it conquered all the hundreds of thousands of followers it has garnered throughout its history.

Thirty is a good number to celebrate, don’t you think? We at least think so, and the organizers of Sónar agree with us, so now we’re going to tell you about the transversal program they have prepared, which covers the present and the future of digital culture and electronic music, and in which Sónar+D reinforces its position as a meeting point for local and international experts at the intersection between art, science, and technology.

Sónar’s 30th anniversary will take place, as we said at the beginning, in Barcelona on 15, 16, and 17 June 2023 and will feature more than 250 proposals, including concerts, DJ sets, masterclasses, talks, and discussion forums, as well as creative-technological projects from more than 20 countries. Meanwhile, Sónar+D 2023 will focus on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on music and the audiovisual and interactive arts through an extensive schedule of activities for professionals and the general public that will occupy the entire Palau de Congressos de Fira Montjuïc from 10 am to 9 pm and will be extended to other spaces at Sónar by Day.

Now let’s move on to what we are sure is the part that interests you most (or at least one of them): the line-up. This year’s musical highlights include Amelie Lens, Aphex Twin, Eric Prydz presenting HOLO -his exclusive and colossal immersive holographic show-, BICEP live, Bad Gyal, Fever Ray, Peggy Gou, Little Simz, Oneohtrix Point Never, Black Coffee, Angel Molina, Solomun, La Zowi, Samantha Hudson, The Blessed Madonna, Shygirl, Carles Viarnès & Alba G.
