Berlin-based artist and producer NOCUI released his debut album, Italian Robot, last November. A three-part conceptual diary inspired by NOCUI’s background in neuroscience, exploring the intricate relationship between technology, society, and human existence. With themes of vulnerability, connection, and resilience, this project invites listeners to reflect on the beauty and isolation of an increasingly digital world. Mixing elements of electronic, disco, rock, pop, and atmospheric soundscapes, the album marks a new chapter for NOCUI, as he steps out from behind the decks and into full performer mode, incorporating his own vocals and embracing a more personal, front-facing artistic identity. Offering a unique take on modern electronic music, his sound is a vibrant fusion of 80s Italo, 00s house, and Mediterranean and Latin influences.

To celebrate the release of Italian Robot, NOCUI curated for Fucking Young! an exclusive Italo playlist.

Miharu Koshi – Scandal Night

One of my all-time favorite tracks. It’s quirky, strange, oblique, groovy, with just the right touch of darkness and irony. I’ve been obsessed with this track—and Miharu Koshi—since college. To me, it perfectly embodies ITALO: the unpretentious yet incredible musicianship, the groove, and the irony of bombastic music that drives you forward without ever trying to be pretentious.

Parbleu – Elios

Definitely some ITALO influences on this one but with a tinge of space disco and French touch. Such an elegant track. Not much to say… It’s just good and curated music.

Charlie – Spacer Woman

A classic that needs no introduction. Embodying the alien feeling of ITALO, that oddly human and evocative nature of this style of music. Inspiring track and always a dancefloor dream conjurer.

Dharma – Plastic Doll

Another classic…Such a fun track to play and dance in a good old discotheque. The synth chords and playful nature of the arrangement are a winner on this one.

Slick – Space Bass

INFECTIOUS! Leaning more towards the space disco side, but regardless of a fire track. The bass line and rhythm section of this one just drives you forward like few tracks do. Blast it and smile!

Mystic Jungle – Don’t Stop Your Love

With this one, we come back to the present! An Italo/Disco/Funky-inspired track by one of my favorite contemporary artists Mystic Jungle. A great embodiment of a reminiscent sound with a modern touch.

Gigi Testa – Jinja

Some Italo influences with Balearic and funky colors throughout! Another modern take on a vintage sound.

ORO – Sasà

Going back home with this Neapolitan Funky/Disco track. Such a beautiful gem of Italian music embodying the sun and simplicity of “La Bella Vita”.

Roman Flugel – Garden Party

I love this record and Roman. I’ve been a huge fan since I started making electronic music. Another playful modern record that takes some Italo-inspired techniques and puts them in a modern and playful form.

Dea – Zaria Sto Chaos

What a quirky track! There’s so much going on here… You’ve got Italo, House, Space Disco, Breakbeat, and more all mixed together. It’s a fresh twist on a bunch of classic genres. Definitely a must-listen if you’re into something unique that takes you in a bunch of different directions.
