Jaylen Brown’s 7uice and NAMESAKE Drop a Collab Inspired by Chess and Family
by Adriano Batista
NBA star Jaylen Brown’s brand, 7uice, has teamed up with NAMESAKE for a new capsule collection called INTELLECTUAL CLUB. The drop is built around chess, not just as a design theme, but as a language. Every piece is a move, every detail a strategy. The collection plays with contrasts: East meets West, tradition meets innovation, precision meets grit.
Grid patterns mimic chessboards, woven into select pieces. The clothes are designed with the same foresight the game demands, blending function and philosophy. Brown, never one to shy away from a message, made sure the collection carried his voice. “Optimism brings power” is literally stitched into the garments, woven into Italian and Japanese linens and wools.
The collaboration makes sense. 7uice, Brown’s brand centered on “community, energy, and style,” found a natural partner in NAMESAKE. According to 7uice’s creative director Shawn Plata, the partnership was about “vitalizing energy and pushing things forward.” For NAMESAKE’s Steve Hsieh, the connection went deeper. Both brands lean into numerology—NAMESAKE often uses the number “3,” representing the three Hsieh brothers and their upbringing across different cultures. 7uice, true to its name, revolves around “7.” Together, they merged the numbers into a design resembling the Chinese character “家” (home).
Family ties sealed the deal. Like 7uice, NAMESAKE is a family operation. Their main collection, OFFSHORE, is a tribute to the brothers’ eldest sibling, Richard, and their fishery roots. INTELLECTUAL CLUB slots into that story as a collaborative chapter—mixing 7uice’s energy with NAMESAKE’s narrative. For Brown, that shared focus on family made the partnership feel inevitable.
