It’s time to wear Burberry!
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
The moment that many have been waiting for has arrived, the Fall/Winter season, when, as usual, outerwear becomes the mainstay of the wardrobe. British fashion house Burberry, founded in 1856, knows a lot about them, since one of the reasons it has stood out in the 168 years it has been in business is for offering (in this field) its clientele innovation, craftsmanship, functionality, and a certain touch of adventure. So, if you’re privileged enough to own one, it’s time to wear it and not lose style for a second on the coldest, rainiest days.
In celebration of this time of the year, in which the firm has led the way for decades, there is a global activation, involving an outerwear collection comprising seven key styles, including the trench coat, Harrington jacket, and quilted jacket, among others; a film campaign called “It’s Always Burberry Weather” shot in the English countryside and London by Alasdair McLellan; pop-ups, exhibitions and in-store activations; and the re-launch of an archive illustration.
As for the campaign, it consists of a series of warm, humorous vignettes and portraits inspired by the house’s outerwear heritage and featuring Burberry-related faces such as actors Barry Keoghan, Zhang Jingyi, and Olivia Colman; supermodel Cara Delevingne; rapper Little Simz; and footballers Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze.
Further celebrating all of the above is the revival of Shelter, a historic image from the Burberry archive, used as a symbol of the firm from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. The image features a man and woman on their backs with two dogs celebrating Burberry’s commitment to protection from the elements.
Of this, Daniel Lee – current creative director of Burberry – said: “Burberry embodies protection, functionality and the great outdoors. We always draw inspiration from our archive and the brand’s original craftsmanship, innovation, and creativity. The campaign’s garments are inspired by the Maison’s silhouettes and are protective and timeless.”
Ready to wear Burberry? Hopefully so. If you find this interesting and are in a city where there’s a Burberry boutique, you might want to stop by, take a look at the collection, and enrich your outerwear knowledge by checking out the archive replicas that will be on display in some of the stores.
