Ithell Colquhoun‘s work delves deep into the worlds of occultism, nature, and often explores themes of sex and gender. Often overshadowed by the towering male figures of surrealism, this collaboration with Tate shines a light on her art, this time with Dr. Martens boots as the canvas.
Creativity and resistance run through Dr. Martens’ DNA: their boots have been embraced for decades by artists and individuals championing underrepresented voices and pushing for progress. This latest collaboration with Tate infuses the classic 1460 boot with the attitude of the British provocateur, surrealist, and occultist, Ithell Colquhoun, showcasing two of her most expressive works: ‘Volcanic Flare’ and ‘Example of Decalcomania Technique’ © Tate.
Both boots come equipped with Dr. Martens’ enduring design: crafted on a rugged sole, reinforced with the iconic yellow stitching. They also feature the distinctive black and yellow heel loop. The collection also includes a backpack adorned with both of the artist’s images.
