CONVERSE x A-COLD-WALL*
by Adriano Batista

After releasing a reimagined Chuck inspired by Nike’s pioneering “Space Hippie” efforts, Converse introduces the Sponge Crater – a first-of-its-kind full-body Crater foam silhouette that embodies the concept of “less is more.” The limited-edition Sponge Crater is both an exploration and exaggeration of Crater foam as a comfort material and a study in reducing complexity. A-COLD-WALL* helps reimagine this new limited edition, Converse-designed silhouette with Samuel Ross applying his atypical contemporary aesthetic.

The conceptual vision of Samuel Ross, A-COLD-WALL* reflects the London subculture and hegemonic disparities through an atypical contemporary lens. Through avant-garde fashion and installations, A-COLD-WALL* highlights the competing forces of class and environment in the landscape. The urban experience of Britain’s working class is woven into the brand’s DNA—embodied in every piece.

The unique avant-garde design of the mule cut Sponge Crater is on a new last, shape and proportion, and comes to life through a thoughtful production process, delivering a bold new silhouette. The Sponge Crater is made of only a few components, most notably, the first full-body structure crafted from Crater foam which speaks to the silhouette’s design and also plays a part in helping ensure comfort.

The Sponge Crater then takes comfort to the next level with revolutionary CX foam underfoot and an egg-crate style traction pod outsole. The flat-knit upper helps promote breathability and the spandex collar, pull tabs and exaggerated heel kick enhance ease of entry.

The Converse x A-COLD-WALL* Sponge Crater will be available on Converse.com, A-COLD-WALL.com and at select retailers beginning June 23.
