A Celebration of Club Cultures at Kenzo by Nigo for Spring/Summer 2026
by Anna Barr
The Kenzo Guy is serious about getting dressed to go out, but not so serious in the way they wear their clothes.
Maximal Dressing for the night out is back! Staged at the legendary club Maxim’s in Paris, NIGO takes us out clubbing with his collection for Kenzo. Tables were filled with a wide range of creatives from Futura 2000, Tyler Herro, 2 Chainz to B.J.Novak. The music began with iconic nightclub singer Frank Sinatra’s My Way before Hiroshi Fujiwara mashed it up with dive bar classic cover by Sid Vicious. NIGO lends a lens of interrogative playfulness, incorporating aspects from subcultures like punk and graffiti, retro inspiration, humorous juxtapositions, archival Kenzo prints, and Italian tailoring all in the spirit of a summer of love. “Club Kenzo” poses the question of whether casual encounters at a club could blossom into something beautiful. I would like to pose a question back: what would Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band wear to Bizarre Love Triangle?
Everything is one big remix from florals, stars, checkerboards, and harlequin prints to mashed up, including bunnies with tiger stripes, while the celebratory collection is grounded in distinctive Kenzo shapes with sentimental touches like those found in roses that pay homage to one house founder Kenzo Takada once wore. Details like mother-of-pearl buttons and vivid faux fur on navy-inspired smocks elevate militaria and workwear while adding a punk-inspired pop of color. Belts that draw inspiration from NIGO’s love of striking jewelry and statement pieces from the era highlight clever sayings. Inspired by punk and NIGO’s love of well-used collectibles, bags are given additional attitude with patches, spray paint, and other techniques on tough canvas and worn leather. And one trend we didn’t see coming, but are ready to welcome back, is the bowling shoe. So if clubs aren’t your thing, see you at the lanes!
