GUCCI Presents Parallel Universes, the new digital auction in collaboration with Christie’s
by Adriano Batista

Fresh off the success of Future Frequencies: Explorations in Generative Art and Fashion, Christie’s and Gucci are back with the second chapter of their journey into the intersecting worlds of fashion, art, and tech. With a mission to tinker with and champion cutting-edge thinking, steering toward radical ideas for future realities, this collaborative auction follows in the footsteps of Gucci Cosmos—an inventive showcase of the House’s most iconic designs over its 102-year history, cooked up and designed by Es Devlin, with a unique selection curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, currently on display at London’s 180 The Strand cultural hub.

Alexis Andre – Birth
Dropping under the apt title Parallel Universes: from Future Frequencies to Gucci Cosmos, the auction is up for bids until November 28, 2023, via Gucci Art Space, the online exhibition spot Gucci opened up back in July 2023. The mission? To promote and empower artists, giving them the freedom and green light to explore uncharted territories. No physical constraints here—just a strictly digital environment serving up an immersive whirlwind of creativity. This time around, it’s all about the works of nine standout artists, all revolving around generative systems: Alexis Andre, Alexis Christodoulou, Amy Goodchild, Harvey Rayner, Jacqui Kenny, Jo Ann, Melissa Wiederrecht, Sasha Stiles, and Thomas Lin Pedersen.

Alexis Christodoulou – The Mysteries of Nature and Art

Sasha Stiles – REPETAE Again, Again (2023)
For this auction, these artists were invited to unleash the full potential of generative systems, exploring new ways to revolutionize fashion and hit new levels of expression—acting as genuine portals to the future. Their challenge? Tackle themes from Gucci’s archives as a nod to the physical exhibition rooms and ponder how the classics and various aesthetic phases of the House, beyond being a reflection of their time, have shaped each era. Through the use of generative systems, each of the nine artists delved into themes or myths about the origins of the House that have left a mark—ranging from the 1897 London where a young Guccio Gucci worked as a bellboy at the Savoy Hotel to the birth of iconic aesthetic symbols like the Horsebit, the Flora motif, or more recently, the Rosso Ancora. The goal? Propel them into new horizons that might one day become reality, fostering meaningful dialogues between different eras and their ever-evolving aesthetics, all the while infusing the future with echoes of the past.
