Bottega Veneta Pre-Spring 2024 collection
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Every time the Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta presents a collection, the whole world is involved, either by the number of headlines it grabs in the media specialized in the sector or by the number of users who share images on social media of some of its looks. The latter has happened, once again, with the last launch of the company and its current creative director Matthieu Blazy, which concerns the Pre-Spring 2024 collection.
The line in question has been presented in lookbook format featuring both men’s and women’s looks, all inspired by a trip home where the designer reconnected with clothes from his childhood, many of them still very dear to him, partly because of the story behind each one.
All the feelings Blazy received from seeing those pieces have been represented in the garments in BV’s proposed wardrobe; see for example the playful prints on a high-quality jumper, which referenced a crab dress his sister had, or the special oversized labels sewn onto tailoring garments with a touch of knitwear. In keeping with the fun, this element also manifests itself in the colour combination, yellow and green or mint green and brown, of a set of shirt and trousers in nappa leather and a coat, the brand’s star fabric and one that Matthieu loves.
This fabric has also been used in the construction of the bags, one of which you’ve probably already seen, as it has gone viral thanks in part to its bubblegum pink colour. The accessory is combined with timeless clothes in traditional silhouettes such as a camel blazer with a check print and combined with a sweatshirt jumper, a striped shirt, and jeans; an infallible look that never goes out of fashion, as well as the denim total look. Going back to the accessories, another one that plays an important role in the proposal is the ties, that come in various formats, all quite classic, except for two, one made with ostrich skin in a greyish tone and the other in brown crocodile skin.
Classic, timeless, fun, risky, avant-garde… many adjectives could define the work being done by Matthieu Blazy at Bottega Veneta. Do you agree with them? Take a look at the collection below and judge for yourself.
