Matthieu Blazy and Gaetano Pesce invite you to visit the installation “Vieni a Vedere”
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Seven decades attest to Gaetano Pesce’s impeccable career as an architect, urban planner, and industrial, urban, and furniture designer. At 83 years of age, there is little left for him to do, as he has done practically everything. In recent times, the La Spezia-born Italian has been linked to the world of fashion and, in particular, to the fashion house Bottega Veneta. Since the Blazy Era began, Gaetano has been very present in it, as have some of his creations, which, in case you didn’t know, have been on sale in some of the brand’s boutiques.

The collaboration between Gaetano and Bottega continues, and to reinforce it further, the two parties have devised a wrap-around installation and a series of limited edition bags, inspired by the contrasts between mountains and meadows, for the annual Miart and Salone del Mobile in Milan. ‘This is my first design of a bag and it is figurative – two mountains with a sunrise or a sunset behind,” explains Pesce. “I wanted a bag with an optimistic view. There is a capacity to realise anything at Bottega Veneta and this bag opens up a way to express future design. The design of the future has to be figurative and it has to communicate – such an object has to tell a story.”. For the bags in question, a series of airbrushing techniques have been used to help reflect Pesce’s watercolors and another crocheted from calfskin and lambskin.
“Vieni a Vedere” is the name given to the work which is part of the continuation of a commission the artist received for Bottega Veneta’s S/S 23 fashion show, in which he transformed a warehouse with a vibrant poured resin floor. He also designed resin-dipped cotton canvas chairs entitled “Come Stai?”. This latest installation follows in the same vein, with the tent covered in resin and fabric to create a unique experience for visitors.
Where and when can you see the work? At the Bottega Veneta boutique on Via Montenapoleone in Milan between the 15th and 22nd of April. However, to see it, you will have to book through its website BottegaVeneta.com.
