2022 has been a memorable year for Grace Wales Bonner. There is no doubt about it. Collaborations with brands such as Adidas Originals or making her debut as the guest star designer at the latest edition of Pitti Uomo 102 are just some of the achievements that the British designer has made recently. To these two, she can now add having become the official winner of the “Independent British Brand Award”, awarded by the British Fashion Council, during the British Fashion Awards 2022 ceremony.

Burna Boy, Yasmin Finney, and Stormzy presented the award to G.W.B., who was thrilled to acknowledge the award, saying: “I am really honoured to be included in this category. It is wonderful to see the BFC is recognising the work of independent designers in this way.To be acknowledged in this line up means so much to me and our team, it’s wonderful and really encouraging. Wales Bonner has always been about bringing an Afro Atlantic perspective to British or European Luxury and this is what we have been working towards since 2015 when I first established the brand.”

The ceremony is the main fundraiser organized by the British Fashion Council, and the Independent British Brand award is given to a British designer whose independent business has had the most notable impact on the fashion industry in the last 12 months.
