TOPMAN Spring/Summer 2016 Lookbook
by Adriano Batista

TOPMAN SS16 is inspired by the great outdoors and design influences from Eastern Europe, set against the back drop of the 1970’s. Denim styles are updated across all of the new trends with formalwear retaining the familiar TOPMAN silhouette in new finishes and fabrications. Centred on themes of travel and exploration ‘High Trek’ is an expression of function and form. Expanding upon classic silhouettes such as slim trousers and tailored shorts, technical fabrics such as parachute nylon are used to explore voluminous proportions. Navy, grey and mustard yellow are prevalent throughout. Key pieces include: nylon co-ord tailored shorts and shirt and parachute parkas.
East Bloc’ takes us to the heart of the city with stripped back essentials inspired by urban Eastern Europe. Wide and straight leg denim contribute to a 1980’s influence together with a focus on sportswear and anarchistic graphics and typography. In keeping with the minimalist theme, colour pallet offers tonal shades of grey marl and white, as well as accents of blue and red. Key pieces include: white denim dungarees and matching denim jeans and jacket. The 70’s trend that has been prevalent in recent seasons has been updated with retro sportswear elements such as striped panelling on trousers and classic logo detailing. Typical 70’s silhouettes have been expanded upon with pyjama style fabrics and ‘revere’ collar shirts. Colour pallet features muted tones of tan and green as well as psychedelic prints of yellow and purple. Key pieces include: embroidered pattern bombers and tan suede coach jackets.
The collection is completed by accessories that exemplify key elements of each trend. Sporty backpacks and duffel bags complement the High Trek and East Bloc trends, whereas the 70’s accessories emulate the sartorial style of the period with knitted ties and smart holdalls.
