For his collection titled “Queer Family”, German knitwear designer Tim Ruehl designed 5 looks that juxtaposed traditional conservative Catholic German Families and the notion of queer chosen families, from the legendary Ballroom houses to sex workers and the Stonewall activists. Elaborate beaded corsets and chaps echo German artisan craft while smocked and pleated ballroom dresses nod to traditional folk costumes and their significance. Torn cobweb knits cling to the body like ripped stockings. Lipstick charms dangle defiantly like talismans against bigotry.
