Geneva (Switzerland) is known by most for the beautiful lake that surrounds it, the good quality of life it offers, or for being considered one of the most important cities in the world, in terms of haute horlogerie. Of course, besides the three mentioned, it stands out for other reasons, such as the new promotion of fashion designers and artists, academically formed at the prestigious HEAD University, who promise to make a name for themselves not only in the country where they are settled but also in the entire world.

This reasoning is based on our own experience, since after getting to know the school in depth and the respective projects of the students, which all generated an emotion or sensation when we saw them, we have come to this conclusion; a conclusion that can also be summarised with the following adjectives: different, fresh, and avant-garde. Yes, although some may not believe it, the fashion industry is not limited to the main capitals like London, Milan, or Paris, and it is possible to find talent in other niche ones.

Being considered “niche” nowadays is quite positive – as the popular end up being saturated and rejected by society – and even more so regarding either of the two main disciplines and all that surrounds them, taught at HEAD. It’s always good to welcome new professionals and keep the circle turning organically.

Fashion and art have always been said to be closely linked, and that was evident in the fashion show that took place last Friday in Geneva, specifically on the campus of the University, because it looked like a big event thanks to the great teamwork done by both the Bachelor and Master students, since the art group was in charge of designing the set, while the fashion group was responsible for turning it into the epicentre of the sector for a few hours with their special designs and fabrics.

As far as menswear is concerned, a range of styles and ways of understanding fashion can be seen on the beige runway and around the large pink cylinders. There was everything, timeless tailoring but with avant-garde details that made it different, represented by Alan Clerc; streetwear by Malik Diarra, Mathilde Paget, or Xavier Weber; genderless and romantic pieces signed by Hippolite Laporte or Rose Egidi + Julien Chardon; transgressive clothes designed by Antoine L.Hostis, Jules Marot, or Lucie + Simon; among others.

Once the different proposals of the designers were shown, a prize-giving ceremony took place, in which the winners were:

Bachelor Bongénie Prize
Thibaut Barraud – Collection Bachelor : Vivre avec…

Collection’s Image/Artistic Direction Prize
Hippolyte Laporte – Collection Bachelor: Behind the curtain.

La Redoute x HEAD 2024 Prize
Alan Clerc – Collection Master: [InProcess].

Master ASWE Prize
Marie Boutin – Collection Master: Superlike.
Vahabzadeh Foundation Prize
Loris Narduzzi – Collection Master: Andiamo a funghi.

Congratulations to all the students who presented their proposals at the HEAD 2024 show, the winners for their well-deserved prizes, and to the university for the incredible work they are doing.
