The Enduring Legacy of “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” at San Sebastián Film Festival
by Adriano Batista

Get ready to boogie down to the beat of the hit disco song that just won’t quit, “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie”! This infectious tune has been dominating the fashion world for a whopping 45 years since its debut, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Mayte Mateos, founding member of the Spanish duo Baccara, shares the story behind the song with a dazzling display of personal photos, press clippings, and magazine features from the late 1970s era in this new documentary directed by the fabulously talented Amanda Louise Macchia.

Known for her signature pop art style and collage-focused films, Amanda has created a visually stunning and captivating work of art that takes you on a journey from the creation of a simple song to its legendary status as a top staple of European disco. But “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” isn’t just a hit in the music world – it’s become synonymous with high fashion and iconic beauty brands like Dior, Paco Rabanne, and Charlotte Tilbury.

The film premieres at the Dock of The Bay Music Documentary Film Festival in San Sebastián, Spain on May 3rd, and Amanda couldn’t be more thrilled to share her passion project with the world. “This film was a milestone for me both personally and historically,” she says. “Baccara were a force of nature in European disco, but ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ transcended industries and has become embedded in what could be described as the ‘soundtrack of high fashion.'”
A rising star in the Paris fashion scene, Amanda is an Italian-Canadian video director and part-time DJ known for her carefully curated disco sets, high fashion videos, and retro pop art style. She’s worked with some of the top fashion brands in the world, including Chanel, Off-White, and Saint Laurent. Her documentary work extends to covering backstage shows by Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Paco Rabanne, and the ateliers of Schiaparelli. Suffice it to say, Amanda is definitely one to watch, and her latest work is sure to get you grooving to the beat!
