After a 30-year journey since the inaugural Danças na Cidade, the Alkantara Festival is back, bringing you a lineup that’s all about wonder and that never-ending quest for more. It’s a deep dive into the boundaries of empathy – what we’re capable of getting through our individual experiences. From November 10th to 26th, it’s all happening on various stages throughout Lisbon!

Get ready for nine killer performances by artists from all corners of the globe. But that’s not all – there are three curatorial projects, basically three festivals within a festival, two epic parties, and a whole bunch of get-togethers and deep conversations – and maybe even some fresh starts.

The lineup is all about contemporary artistic practices, bringing together a blend of stories and experiences. Some of them may delve into violence and discomfort, told from personal perspectives or reenacted by others.

How far can we go? How close can we get? From realities that are either right at our doorstep or a world away, the offerings at Alkantara Festival 2023 dig into questions of identity, ecological, social, and political issues. But they also present avenues for celebration, liberation, and building on the understanding that we are multifaceted, and there are limits to what we can comprehend.
