SANGUE NOVO is on the Menu of MODALISBOA’s “À LA CARTE” Edition
by Adriano Batista
Sangue Novo will open the 61st Lisboa Fashion Week putting ten emerging designers in the spotlight.
They are:
Afonso Afonso
Ana Maricato
Bárbara Atanásio
Çal Pfungst
Diogo Mestre
Gabriel Bandeira
Isza
Izabel Monnerat
Maria do Carmo Studio
Maria Miguel Martins
These ten collections aren’t just about fashion; they’re a reflection of the vision of the new generation of Portuguese fashion designers. They mirror the zeitgeist of the present and offer a glimpse into the future of the industry. They tackle identity and social issues with a keen eye.
What’s even more exciting is how they’re shaking up the industry’s environmental norms. Partnering with ModaLisboa’s textile collaborators, including Calvelex/Fabrics4Fashion, RDD Textiles, and Riopele, these designers are committed to reducing their environmental footprint. Forget the usual suspects – deadstock and upcycling. They’re opting for prints derived from natural processes, mono-materials, natural fibers, recyclable materials, and 3D prints.
But it’s not just about materials; it’s about concepts. These collections explore the boundaries of reality and the beauty in transformation. From simple textures to elaborate fictional worlds, they celebrate metamorphosis and the fluidity of identity. They also delve into subjects like gentrification and the poetry of the everyday.
Mark your calendars for October 6, 2023. That’s when MODALISBOA À LA CARTE will showcase these ten projects, with support from Seaside. On the same day, they’ll unveil the five finalists who will compete for the prestigious IED – Istituto Europeo di Design and RDD Textiles awards in March 2024. These five designers will be in the spotlight, represented at the Showpress showroom, with a thousand euros each to fuel their next creative endeavors. Plus, they’ll enjoy mentoring sessions with a panel of experts:

Joana Jorge (Project Manager at ModaLisboa)
João Magalhães (Fashion Designer)
Adriano Batista (Editor-in-Chief of Fucking Young!)
Ana Tavares (CEO of RDD Textiles)
