Q Design and Play “Red Eagle” Collection
by Eduardo G.

Q Design and Play for Fall/Winter 2013 is entitled: “Red Eagle”. The collection was inspired by the memory of “Red Eagle”, the only superhero in Thai legend.
“Red Eagle” is known as a Thai heroic novel character, created and authored by Sek Dusit, in 1955-1970. His story has been adapted into feature films and also TV plays over and over again. With inspiration, the designer, Praphat Somboonsitti, has created the Fall/Winter collection named accordingly “Red Eagle”. The collection tells the story of Red Eagle’s bravery fighting against crime and believing in justice. The clothes carry the geometric forms reminding us of Red Eagle’s uniform, which is sporty, manly and smart. Jackets, tops, pants and shorts were adjusted to be wearable, yet remain the hero’s look. Red Eagle’s symbol is, undoubtedly, an eagle, which has come to be the highlight of the collection. The eagles’ illustration is the memorable part, added gimmicks through the variety of technics on clothes such as printing and feather screen.
The materials mainly used are very distinctive from the previous collections’. As Praphat needs to emphasize the hero being, he has picked something like metallic PU leather, wool, quilt and twill, in order to create the hero’s look. The colors of red, gold, silver, blue and black, which are the classic tones according to the original hero’s type, play an important role in the collection.
