Harry Belafonte, his musical album “Calypso” and the illustrations that appear on it have a lot to do with Nicholas Daley‘s Spring/Summer 23 collection, as it has served as inspiration for the London menswear designer.

It all started when Daley came across a black and white photo of the artist wearing a wide lapel suit with an affectionate message to Dorothy. From this moment on, Nicholas’s imagination began to know no bounds and he began to intertwine family history with his Jamaican heritage and Belafonte. As a result of this union, the “Calypso” collection was born.

Nicholas Dailey’s SS23 is characterized primarily by a soft color palette and a selection of retro-style garments and prints that reference the tropical lifestyle and specifically by textile designer Althea Menish and artist Sonia Boyce. Open-collared shirts, slightly tailored blazers with XL lapels, five-pocket waistcoats, and wide trousers are all to be found in Nicholas’s collection.

There are several highlights of this line: the strong cotton twill, the organic denim, the elegant silk-blend jacquard tailor-made by Stephen Walters, and the Japanese embroidery applied on waxed canvas.

Any song from the calypso album could be the perfect accompaniment to Nicholas Dailey’s spring/summer collection.
