Monique Fei Spring/Summer 2025
by Anna Barr
Designer Monique Fei explores the intersection of craft and couture, transforming traditional shapes and techniques to create wearable sculptures that interrogate their own material and making process. For Spring/Summer 2025 she presented ‘Monique Fuel’ during Paris Fashion Week. Known for using unconventional materials such as wild rubber, lint and dog hair, this season sees the use of natural latex and textile craftwork.
The collection features a variety of wearable sculptures in a petrol station environment inspired by the designer’s personal tale came to life with styling Emilien Gilbert. Monique Fei explores contemporary topics such as physical perfection and the masculine gaze, sexual identity, the platforming and preservation of fetish and queer communities, and the eco-history of rubber and oil, mechanism, and industry. The eclectic cast of characters you might run into at a gas station included François Sagat as a Mechanic along with a shopkeeper, posh dad, truck driver, and Søren Müller as a deer.
