LUAR day arrived, and as we are used to, social media was flooded with some of its designs or star appearances because if last year it was Beyoncé herself who sat on the front row of the show, this year it was Madonna. Yes, the considered by many as the “Queen of Pop” was the last one to fall for the magic and vision of Raul Lopez – creative director of the brand -, and she proved it by attending the event, held at the legendary Rockefeller Plaza in New York during fashion week.

“En Boca Quedó” – a common phrase heard in the Dominican Republic and often used as a playful form of shade by the elderly, now adopted by the Queer community – was the title given to the Spring/Veran0 2025 proposal, made up of 54 looks, over 30 being menswear, though in truth gender is not something to which particular importance is attached. But what it does give it is to people who dress authentically and feel comfortable and self-confident, like the models who walked the catwalk boldly wearing the company’s debut shoes: a clog, high kitten-heeled boots, and an oxford loafer, all in leather.

The most popular colour seen in it was black, but others joined it, such as grey, brown, beige, and white. All of them successfully dyed the avant-garde looks with enveloping and exaggerated silhouettes, some of them reminiscent of armour, worn to face different difficult situations in the city and negative comments, and fused with rich fabrics such as tulle, Italian merino wool, or warped pony hair. LUAR’s wardrobe for the coming seasons is full of garments with L-shaped brooches that create a draped effect; two-piece ensembles featuring the brand’s name in a futuristic version; dresses that leave little to the imagination; and tailoring adapted to the present day.

Accessories, an essential part of the brand and one of the main reasons why it became well known, covered more territory than usual, introducing new silhouettes, all of them made of 100% leather, such as the “Yahaira”, a medium-sized, angular bag that is essentially an evolution of the “Ana” bag; the “Alexis”, an evolution of FW24’s backpack silhouette; and a large cross-body shoulder bag. In addition, and as a curiosity, one of the three new colours of the “Ana” bag, the gold one, is a limited edition collaboration with the American Express® Gold Card, notable for its dangling embellishments that represent the card’s most popular benefits, such as food and travel.

Raul Lopez has gone from being one of the most niche designers in the US to one of the most popular designers there and worldwide, not to mention one of the most anticipated designers at NYFW.
