LUAR Fall/Winter 2025
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
Some people say that New York Fashion Week is not what it used to be and that there are no interesting proposals. In response to this theory, we have to say that we don’t agree at all because as far as the young designer scene is concerned, several names are elevating it to unsuspected limits, offering exciting works to the critics and clientele, and above all that breathe fashion. One of those in charge of making this happen is Raul Lopez – Founder and Creative Director of LUAR – who edition after edition floods the Big Apple with magic and vanguard.
The latter was confirmed first hand by the guests at the show, held at the Continental Center building on 180 Maiden Lane, among them celebrities such as NLE Choppa, Lisa Rinna, and more. All of them didn’t take their eyes off the American brand’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, entitled “El Pato”, which comes as a tribute to the LGTBQ+ community, especially to the gays. As an informative fact, the word “pato” is used as an insult in Latin American culture, so the designer wanted to invert its pellorative meaning and use it as an element of inspiration when developing the line.
Ducks are animals that are usually covered with feathers. At first glance, these are almost exclusive to this species, but we all know that anything is possible, so from now on they are also possible for humans, who on the catwalk wore them on their heads in headdresses, coats, hoodies, trousers, and even in the form of a print. Raul is a non-conformist that always wants to go further, and on this occasion, he has done so by creating such a print, unusual in the industry to date.
Accompanying these pieces were others in asymmetrical and subversive silhouettes, including sartorial sets of tops (leaving one shoulder bare) and trousers, coats with oversized circular collars and length, combined with heeled boots or ankle boots, and the iconic “Anna” bag, revisited.
If anyone is truly doing something meaningful for the LGBTQ+ community and the fashion industry, it’s Raul Lopez. How lucky we are to have designers who stay true to themselves, no matter what anyone else says.
