Kike Vidal unveils his Graduation Collection captured by the lens of Celeste Galanda.
Titled “Frames of Utopia” the collection is conceived at the intersection of utopian and dystopian concepts, taking inspiration from Blade Runner and Matrix among other cinematic favorites. The collection delves into the resemblance between current social reality and a dystopian landscape, amidst an environment of perpetual change and stimuli, including pandemics, wars, discrimination, and climate shifts.
The collection explores the human endeavor to forge an individual path toward a personal utopia, striving for ultimate happiness. This journey entails a departure from the contemporary world, confronting numerous hurdles along the way. The essence of the collection’s message revolves around the notion that the attainment of utopia and perpetual happiness remains an unattainable pursuit, given the inherently unrealistic nature of perfection.
The essence of the collection manifests as a timeless men’s assortment, adaptable across diverse climates. This sophisticated, utilitarian, and circular collection paradigm prioritizes outerwear, with inner garments reflecting a minimalist and versatile essence. Despite the limited number of designs, a myriad of combinations and possibilities arise. These outer garments also serve a dual purpose, functioning not only as attire but as tools for survival. For instance, a sleeping bag seamlessly transforms into a jumpsuit, a blanket evolves into a blazer, while pants metamorphose into a functional fanny pack.
An aesthetic that seamlessly fuses utilitarian elements with refined touches characterizes the collection. Merging projective and design elements, the juxtaposition of dystopian geometric silhouettes with softer utopian contours is achieved through intricate tailoring and patterning techniques. This synthesis harmonizes traditional masculine apparel with transformative and utilitarian hybrid creations, encapsulating the duality of functionality and attire. The underlying motif invokes concepts of transhumanism and the evolution of humanity itself, wherein clothing is ingeniously adapted to facilitate the quest for perfection. Despite the voluminous nature of the garments, an artful equilibrium ensures both visual harmony and pragmatic efficiency.
Consequently, the collection’s garments abstain from excessive ornamentation, prioritizing the innate qualities of the fabrics. To accentuate the interplay between utopia and dystopia, a curated fabric palette is orchestrated, interweaving luminous textures like iridescent taffetas, satin, and silk organza with subdued counterparts like cotton poplin and merino wool. This intermingling symbolizes the interaction between the two overarching concepts. A harmonious color palette melding earthy browns, greens, and turquoises with accents of silver and gray threads throughout binds the collection cohesively. The meticulously composed palette ensures a seamless compatibility of color elements, allowing for multifaceted combinations.
It is worth noting that meticulous garment finishes underscore the synergy of functionality and aesthetics, attaining a level of superior quality and comfort beyond mere appearance.
