Gucci announces the opening of the third Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Tokyo on October 28, 2021. Located on top of the Gucci Namiki flagship store in Ginza, it will be the second location of the contemporary Italian restaurant in a place in the world outside of Italy, after the one located on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, United States.

Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura are contemporary restaurants with the same values and principles under the Gucci Osteria umbrella. Bringing creativity, elegance, fun, and sensuality to traditional Italian cuisine, Tokyo customers will enjoy a unique dining experience that will also incorporate the diversity and identity of their location.

With a capacity for 48 people in the main dining room and 12 on the terrace, the new restaurant will serve Italian lunches, dinners, and appetizers. The kitchen will be led by chef Antonio Iacoviello, bringing the youthful energy and philosophy of the original Gucci Osteria from Florence to Tokyo.

The menus have been prepared by internationally renowned chef Massimo Bottura (owner of the 3-star Michelin Osteria Francescana, voted Best Restaurant in the World in 2016 and 2018), Karime Lopez, Chef de Cuisine of Gucci Osteria in Florence, Italy (which received its first star in the 2020 Michelin Guide Italy) and chef Antonio Iacoviello. The a la carte menu will include signature Gucci Osteria dishes such as the legendary Emilia burger and Tortellini with Parmigiano Reggiano cream. In addition, there will be original contributions of Italian-centric dishes and new seasonal Japanese-inspired creations. These will include Parmigiana Ramen and When Florence Meets Akita, a dish that combines Akita beef and balsamic sauce from Italy.

In Massimo’s words: “As in Italy, Japanese food and products are so intertwined with its culture that it has deservedly become one of the best cuisines in the world. Japan holds a special place in my heart, and I am excited to welcome you all to our little corner of Tokyo.”

Gucci Osteria Tokio’s manicured interiors are inspired by the original Florence venue, with references to the Italian Renaissance and the eclectic mix of aesthetics embraced by Gucci. At the private elevator entrance on the ground floor, a mysterious array of rooms sets the tone for the upper floor. Gucci Décor Tian wallpaper enriches the wooden lattices, resembling the dreamlike atmosphere of winter gardens. Once inside, a vibrant palette of greens defines the spaces in each room, where luxurious peacock velvet banquettes complement light green paneling, marble dining tables, wicker chairs and Gucci Décor dinnerware. Among the exceptional elements that distinguish Gucci Osteria Tokio are its wooden floors, hand-painted with a design inspired by the antiques collected by creative director Alessandro Michele. The recurring symbolism of the star appears both in the lights in the hallway leading to the main hall and on the mosaic floor of the terrace, adorned with traditional Japanese plants. In addition, hidden behind patio doors is a richly decorated private dining room called the Room of Mirrors that seats 8, where vintage European mirrors, ebony woodwork and Radura wallpaper from the Gucci Décor collection, offer a truly intimate and exclusive dining experience. The exterior glass facade of the entrance facing Namiki-dori Street is designed to allow a fluid perspective, offering a view of the linden trees along the road, the symbol of Namiki-dori Street.
