First look: H&M’s Glenn Martens Collection

H&M is presenting its new collaboration with the Belgian designer Glenn Martens. This collection offers a wide range of customers the chance to own his unique designs.
The full collection includes womenswear, menswear, unisex clothing, and accessories. Martens transformed the project by starting with familiar clothing. He explored the H&M archive to select best-selling pieces, from t-shirts and plaid shirts to bomber jackets and jeans. Each one has been reimagined.
The designs play with illusion and customization. Many pieces can be physically changed by the wearer. Using techniques like metal plating and cable-wiring, you can reshape them into more sculptural forms. The collection also pays tribute to Martens’ own career, featuring boots and prints that reference his work for the Y/Project label.
Martens describes the collection as a “large family of garments,” where each piece has multiple purposes and personalities. An H&M creative advisor calls it one of their most creative collaborations, noting how it plays with the essence of everyday dressing.
