Feel the relaxed and casual essence of California in the Levi’s® and ERL collection
by Gabriel Córdoba Acosta
We find ourselves in front of one of the most surprising collaborations since the moment it was announced: Levi’s® x ERL. We could say it’s the alliance of the season, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves and we prefer to be sensible for once in our lives, because as you already know, in this vibrant industry everything can change from one minute to the next. Let’s see how the year ends…
Back to the collab, it captures the relaxed and casual essence of California, which can be seen in all the denim garments that appear in the line. Here you’ll find some of the San Francisco brand’s most iconic models, all reimagined, like the 501®, Split Leg Jean, Stay Loose, and Low Rise Flare. But among all those mentioned above, there is one in particular that could be considered the jewel in the crown, and that’s the shorts that look like oversized boardshorts that have been cut from a jumpsuit, offering a new shape reminiscent of Venice Beach.
The lower pieces are accompanied by upper ones such as overshirts, Sherpa jackets, one short and boxy (Sherpa Trucker), and one longer (Sherpa Duster Trucker). On all these items the ERL logo is embroidered in neon orange. The fun thing about this detail is that it appears in random places to give a unique sense of spontaneity.
Using an adjective related to “unique” is how Eli Russell, founder and creative director of ERL, described the experience of working with the legendary denim company: “It was very exciting to work with the Levi’s® team in the design process. He adds: “As authenticity is most important to me, I really enjoyed going through the Levi’s® archives to fully understand the heritage of the brand and to see how people over the years have personalised it and made it their own. Our Levi’s® x ERL collection has a very grunge, casual, skater energy. It’s easy to wear every day, but still identifiable with a clear voice and signature.”
Karyan Hillman, Product Director at Levi Strauss & Co, shares Eli’s sentiments, saying, “It’s been incredible working with the ERL team, exploring and crafting new reinterpretations of our denim basics while infusing ERL’s signature point of view: the collection brings together a strong blend of both ERL and Levi’s® authentic, California roots.”
Levi’s® x ERL collection is now available for purchase. You can do so through the Levi’s website, on the Levi’s® app, and in select Levi’s® stores. It will also be available at Dover Street Market and selected shops worldwide.
