Dior Men Beachwear 2019 Capsule Collection
by Adriano Batista

Inspired by the artistic collaboration at the heart of the Dior Men Pre-Fall 2019 collection – in itself influenced by Monsieur Christian Dior’s personal history as a gallerist, and his love of avant-garde art – Dior menswear artistic director Kim Jones collaborates with Japanese contemporary artist Hajime Sorayama to create two unique print universes, utilized for an exclusive summer capsule collection.
Sorayama’s iconic figures – his organic-robotic women and animals – populate fantasy panoramas of water and foliage in two exclusive visuals. ‘Seascape’ and ‘Hawaiian Robots’ are both lushly colored, contrasting Sorayama’s glossy futurism with wild nature, oceanic ripples and tropical vegetation. The artwork serves as dual homage, to both Sorayama’s aesthetic and Kim Jones’ love of travel and wildlife.
This capsule encompasses a tight edit of sportswear pieces: easy aloha shirts, swim shorts, lightweight jackets in fluid rayon and nylon. They are accompanied by leathergoods: a trio of bag styles – a cabal, a belt-bag, and the Dior ‘roller’ – a duo of pochettes and a new version of Dior’s oblique sneakers, as well as silk scarves and beach towels. Modern and fresh, colorful and playful, the Dior men’s beachwear 2019 capsule is a youthful expression of the Dior esprit.
