The Barreira Catwalk 2025 filled Valencia’s IVAM with creativity as students presented their final projects under the theme BREAK OUT. The collections from Barreira Arte + Diseño’s three programs showed fashion’s power to express ideas, emotions, and personal journeys.

In the Millinery and Accessories program, Andrea Gómez’s Pornografía emocional examined how accessories become extensions of the body. Mara Moreno’s Llágrimes de creativitat captured the creative process through color and form. Ángela Fontanel’s Inconsciente explored dream worlds, while Sichen Liu’s La protección de los perros used hat designs to tell stories of rescued animals. Arturo Fernández’s Pureza drew from Japanese cultural contrasts.

The Styling and Apparel collections revealed deeply personal stories. Valeria Rana’s Arxiimede reflected on family memories, and Gonzalo Laguarda’s Westmoor Academy recreated school life through fashion. Héctor Cubells imagined a dystopian future in Aftermath 2099, while Elia Pastor’s Elysium celebrated feminine strength. Other standouts included Celia Martínez’s meditation on perfection in Necesse, Sonia Llacer’s emotional healing process in El vestido del silencio, and Sofía Serrano’s tribute to Lithuanian roots in Las costuras del alma. Sara Ibáñez combined Valencian and hip-hop influences in Al ritmo de la pólvora, and Lucía Enseñat Iza symbolized personal growth in El proceso de liberación.

Fashion Design students presented ambitious visions. Asier Jiménez questioned beauty standards in No Retorno, Lucía Sánchez examined women’s freedom across generations in Tercera Ausencia, and Paloma Argente reimagined workwear in Sakura. Sara Xue Játiva blended cultural identities in Xué Xiàn, while Sofía Sempere’s Un instante de luz used cyanotype techniques to capture light. Other notable works included Ángela Vicente’s exploration of heartbreak in La sustancia del romanticismo and Fernando Carbonell’s sustainable approach in From Elegance to Excess.

From accessories to complete collections, each project demonstrated how fashion can communicate complex ideas. The students transformed personal experiences, cultural references, and social questions into wearable statements.

When asked what made this edition unique, Elena Giménez, Fashion Design Area Coordinator, shared: “Each edition represents a new challenge with a common goal: to organize a fashion show worthy of our students’ talent. An event that frames their potential and serves as a window into the world of their creative abilities. This year, we presented 32 proposals from different disciplines within the area. Each collection is born from an intimate dialogue, from a personal theme, yet they all share a vision for the future of creativity. The setting for this edition was truly special: the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM). With its doors closed to the public, the museum was transformed into a unique space that, beyond its privileged location in the city center, perfectly embodied the spirit of this edition: disrupt to grow, innovate to advance.
