His early days, full of playful rivalry with his brother, ignited a deep love for football. Mboula’s enthusiasm for the game grew alongside his interest in fashion and design.
His playing style is energetic and adaptable, letting him fit into various roles on the field. Off the pitch, Mboula’s creativity shines in his fashion designs, drawing inspiration from his travels and personal experiences, blending elegance with a unique touch. His commitment to community and inclusivity also stands out.
Mboula’s story is a reminder that with passion, hard work, and a unique perspective, you can achieve success in multiple areas. We had a little chat with him to find out more about his journey and here’s what he told us:
How did you first get involved in football? What were your earliest footballing memories?
My journey into football began in a rather funny way. It wasn’t a passion I discovered on my own but rather a result of jealousy, haha. My older brother Arnau signed up to play football, and as his little brother, I couldn’t stand the idea of him doing something I wasn’t a part of. So, I insisted my parents let me play too. That’s how I joined my first team, the local club in my hometown, L’Ametlla del Vallès. My earliest memories are simply about running around, trying to keep up with my brother. At the start, I didn’t even know if football was something I truly enjoyed, but over time, it grew into a passion that has shaped my entire life.
How did it feel to make your professional debut? What were your expectations and aspirations when you first started your professional career?
Making my professional debut was an unforgettable moment. It’s a mix of pride, excitement, and nerves all at once. You dream of that moment for years, and when it finally happens, it’s surreal. At that time, my expectations were simple: I wanted to prove myself and make my family proud.
How would you describe your playing style? What are your strengths as a player?
I’d say my playing style is dynamic and versatile. I thrive in one-on-one situations, using my speed and technical ability to create chances and break through defenses. One of my key strengths is my adaptability—whether it’s adjusting to different leagues, positions, or styles of play.
How did your interest in fashion and design develop? Is it a way to express yourself outside of football?
Fashion became an interest for me over time. Being constantly in the public eye as a footballer made me think more about how I present myself off the pitch. It’s definitely a way to express who I am beyond football. For me, fashion isn’t just about trends; it’s about finding a style that feels authentic and confident. Experimenting with looks and creating something unique has become almost therapeutic, a way to unwind from the pressures of the game.
Can you describe your design process? How do you balance your football commitments with your creative pursuits?
My design process is very personal. It usually starts with inspiration from things I see around me—whether it’s a place, a piece of art, or even the people I meet. From there, I sketch or imagine how I’d bring those ideas to life. Balancing football and creativity can be challenging, but I’ve found that diving into fashion helps me recharge mentally. It’s less about time management and more about using those creative moments as a form of relaxation.
Who or what inspires your designs? Are there any particular artists, designers, or cultural influences that shape your aesthetic?
I’m inspired by many things—travel, different cultures, and even the game itself. The United States has always had a special impact on me, not just visually but through sensations that leave a lasting impression. One of the most defining moments for my creative vision came during a road trip through Colorado. The vast landscapes, the mix of rugged and serene environments, and the feeling of freedom I experienced there unlocked something inside me.
That trip helped me discover the creative direction I had been searching for, a way to channel all the ideas I had within me. It was a turning point, where I realized how much inspiration can come from the emotions and energy of a place. Since then, I’ve tried to infuse that sense of freedom and authenticity into my designs, blending it with influences from other parts of the world and my personal story.
How would you describe your personal style? How does it reflect your personality and values?
My personal style is a mix of casual elegance. I value comfort, but I also like to add a touch of distinction—whether it’s through color, fit, or accessories. It reflects my personality: confident yet grounded, creative but authentic. I believe style is an extension of who you are, and I try to stay true to myself in everything I wear.
Are there any dream collaborations, whether in football or fashion, that you’d like to pursue?
In fashion, I’d love to collaborate with brands or individuals who share my vision for blending creativity with authenticity. Creating something unique that bridges the worlds of football and fashion is definitely a goal of mine.
How do you maintain your mental health and well-being, especially during challenging periods?
Maintaining mental health is crucial in such a demanding career. I focus on staying grounded through family, friends, and hobbies like fashion. Taking time to reflect, rest, and do things that make me happy—outside of football—helps a lot. I also remind myself that setbacks are part of the journey and focus on controlling what I can.
How do you use your platform to give back to the community? Are there any social causes you’re passionate about?
Giving back is something I deeply believe in. Football has given me so much, and I feel a responsibility to use my platform to inspire others. I’m particularly passionate about encouraging young people not only to pursue their dreams but to embrace all the talents they have. I want to show that it’s possible to excel in multiple areas and that we shouldn’t limit ourselves to just one path.
For me, life is about finding what makes you happy and dedicating yourself to it fully, putting in the effort to bring out the best in yourself. Whether it’s through sports, art, or any other passion, I hope to inspire others to explore their creativity, push their boundaries, and never let their potential go to waste. It’s about showing that with hard work and belief in yourself, you can achieve extraordinary things.
What do you envision for the future of football in terms of diversity and inclusivity?
I think football is moving in the right direction, but there’s still work to be done. It’s a sport that connects people from all walks of life, and I’d love to see even more representation and opportunities for underrepresented communities. Inclusivity makes the game richer and stronger, and I hope to contribute to that progress in any way I can.
What are your short-term and long-term goals for your football and fashion career? Where do you see yourself in five years?
In the short term, I want to continue improving as a player, contributing to my team, and achieving success on the pitch. In the long term, I’d like to establish myself as a leader both in football and in the creative world. Five years from now, I see myself balancing both passions—still competing at the highest level in football and running a fashion project that reflects my personality and vision. It’s all about growth and staying true to who I am.
